An underwater vehicle designed for tourist exploration of the Titanic wreckage has become unaccounted for in the Atlantic Ocean.
The submersible, owned by OceanGate Expeditions, was engaged in a mission to offer sightseeing opportunities of the renowned shipwreck when it suddenly disappeared. Authorities from the Boston Coast Guard have initiated a search and rescue operation in an attempt to locate the vessel.
The exact number of individuals aboard the sub at the time of its disappearance remains unknown. Resting approximately 12,500 feet deep on the ocean floor, the Titanic shipwreck is situated roughly 370 miles off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
The submersible was actively surveying the wreckage site as part of an eight-day excursion, with tickets priced up to $250,000 per person. OceanGate Expeditions has assured that they are diligently exploring all available avenues to ensure the safe return of the crew.
